Stylish Stripes Noel Card

Stylish Stripes Noel Greeting Card

There's still plenty of Christmas cheer around here - you didn't think I'd be done after just one gift tag did you? Hahaha!

I'm pretty sure there's a rule somewhere that says you can't do a series of holiday paper-crafts challenges without including a card category. Naturally Cath knows all the rules, so of course there's a Moxie Fab World holiday card challenge to play along with.

The idea for today's holiday card came to me while I was creating this clean and simple birthday card.
"Hey, I bet you could put washi tape in-between these
embossed stripes and it would look really cool."

I actually stopped what I was doing to test my theory ...

Washi tape applied to embossed cardstock

... and it worked! The 3/8" washi tape fits perfectly with the Stylish Stripes Embossing Folder.

For my Noel card, I used the Crumb Cake washi from the Season of Style Designer Washi Tape collection. Once all the washi tape was in place, I decided to add some sparkle with narrow strips of Red Glimmer Paper.

Embellishment cluster on holiday greeting card

For the greeting focal point, I created a paper-pierced flag, framed with Old Olive cardstock. Above the greeting I attached a strip of Red Glimmer Paper over a Petite Curly Label and adorned it with a Vintage Faceted Designer Button tied with Baker's Twine.

Conserve paper and cardstock using this trick

TIP: When possible, punch small cardstock pieces from larger pieces on your project that will be covered up once they are layered.

Did you notice the envelope? A simple strip of washi tape across the flap is quick and easy and gives the envelope a touch of festive flair.

Have a great day and thanks for visiting!

xoxo

Christmas Wishes Gift Tag

Elegant Christmas Wishes Gift Tag

Pour yourself some eggnog ... it's time for a little Christmas cheer! This gorgeous holiday tag in non-traditional colors is going to make a real statement on someone's present under the tree.

With so much inspiration from the Stampin' Up! Holiday Catalog and a *few* new products that have arrived in the studio, I didn't need any prompting to dive right into holiday projects. My gift tag for today, however, is for the Holiday Gift Tag Challenge over at Moxie Fab World.

I couldn't wait to use this beautiful patterned paper from the Sweater Weather Designer Series Paper collection. I had a piece of the Bermuda Bay ribbon lying on my desk and I just knew that this paper would look stunning paired with Bermuda Bay and Coastal Cabana! Am I right? Or am I right?

I also wanted to use the Adorning Accents Edgelit on the tag, so that determined my tag size of 3" x 5-1/2". The patterned paper and a strip of Bermuda Bay cardstock were both die-cut using the edgelit to create the pretty border layered over Coastal Cabana cardstock.

Easy to create scallop circle paper flowers

The paper flowers are created using the 1-1/4" Scallop Circle punch (3 layers per flower), scrunched and spritzed into shape. The shiny leaves underneath were cropped from the new Silver Foil Sheets using the Bird Builder Punch.

TIP: The Foil Sheets (available in gold and silver) are similar to cardstock with foil on one side. The 12" x 12" sheets come two per package and are acid free. They can be cut, punched or die-cut.

Trendy tickets with Christmas wishes for cards, tags, and gifts

The little tickets were stamped using the That's The Ticket stamp set and cropped using the coordinating Ticket Duo Punch.

What's a gift tag without some ribbon? I added skinny taffeta in Bermuda Bay (trimmed with white) and classy satin/organza in Whisper White.

Pass the eggnog. (I'll take mine spiked, please!)

xoxo

The Traveling Tag is such a fun way to start or continue with a gift-giving tradition. Use the tag to travel from gift to gift among family or friends to see where it has been and for what occasion. (Great for a bottle of wine or a gift bag.) You could even reserve the tag for a specified milestone occasion or celebration.

Many years ago my Mom put a Christmas gift inside a box that originally held steak platters. The next year someone else got a gift inside the same box. When it happened again for the third year in a row, everyone had a great laugh over the "steak box" making the rounds and it became a yearly tradition for someone to receive a gift placed inside that box. In fact, it's almost like a badge of honor now to receive the coveted (albeit a tad worn) steak box!

Traditionally yours,

xoxo

Sweater Weather

Cute sweater card! #cardmaking #Stampinup #shapedcards

No, it isn't sweater weather here yet, but it is right around the corner for most of you. Have you seen these cute sweater cards before? I've made them over the years along with tuxedos, suits, and men's shirts, but I don't usually make these types of cards too often any more. But I had two good reasons this week.

Earlier in the week there was a cute post/tutorial over at Operation Write Home featuring sweater cards. That's when I had a big light bulb moment.

Hello, I've got Sweater Weather Designer Series Paper right here
and it's perfect for sweater cards!

Sweater card neckline detail

(Update 08/04/14 - These cards are standard A2 cards (4-1/4" x 5-1/2").

My Crushed Curry sweater features a crew neck, buttons, and pockets with contrasting trim. The crew neck is created using two circle framelits nested to die-cut the circle shape before embossing with the Square Lattice Embossing Folder.

TIP: Be sure to finish all the cutting before embossing. If you run the piece through the Big Shot again after you've embossed, it will flatten the texture. If you do forget, it is possible to re-emboss your project. (Guess who forgot, which is why her entire sweater is embossed instead of just the trim. Duh!)

Sweater card pocket detail

To create the pockets, I used one of the Hearts a Flutter Framelits Dies (see which one at the end of this post) and cut off the bottom portion. You could also use a 1" Square punch and round off the corners with the Corner Punch or your Paper Snips.

Sweater card inside detail with greeting

For the inside, I chose this fitting sentiment from the A Dozen Thoughts stamp set. You could also use any greeting that offers "warm wishes" or something along those lines.

Sweater card with Stampin' Up! Sweater Weather Designer Series Paper

I created a second, simpler sweater card featuring a Peter Pan collar (watch out fashion designers, hahaha!!) using this template as a guide for placement of the dies. It features the same pockets as the previous card, but with no contrasting trim. The bottom strip was scored (using my Simply Scored Scoring Tool) to resemble a ribbed hem, but it doesn't show up well in the photo.

Sweater card collar detail with pearl

Did you get a load of that patterned paper? Now you know why I simply had to make a couple of sweater cards. This paper collection includes great patterns and colors for fall and masculine cards. There is also a stunning pattern I'm using on a card that I will share with you next week.

Have a great weekend - tgif!

xoxo

A Charm of Powerful Trouble!

Toil & Trouble Halloween Card #halloween #cardmaking

First Halloween card of the year!

For fans of all things a little bit spooky and ooky, the Toil & Trouble stamp set is a must have. I mean come on. A raven, a skeleton, skull and crossbones, and the star of the show (from Shakespeare's Macbeth) - ingredients for a powerful witch's brew.

Double, double toil and trouble;

On a serious note, have you seen the Witches' Brew Designer Series Paper? Gah! It's freaky awesome!! Check it:

I know! And how brilliant to sneak in Summer Starfruit, a perfect complement to black and gray. (Like it or not, purple is taking a Halloween trends time out this year. Poor purple. Sniff.)

The Summer Starfruit patterned paper may just be my favorite in the collection. It's so beautiful, you might not even realize at first that the design is actually tiny spiders in tiny intricate webs.

Naturally, I was dying to create my first spooky card of the year with the Summer Starfruit paper. The banner strips are also cut from the same paper collection.

Fire burn, and caldron bubble.

The main image was stamped using VersaMark and covered with a glitter/powder concoction and heat set. You may already know that you can use Heat & Stick powder to hold glitter. Normally, you stamp the image in VersaMark, sprinkle with the powder, melt it with the Heat Tool, then add glitter and heat set again.

However, if you combine the glitter and powder together you can heat it in just one step! In my concoction I also added a little bit of black embossing powder to help the more intricate parts of the image be more visible.

Black glitter lettering for Halloween

The main image is die-cut using one of the Apothecary Accents Framelits and I die-cut a second one in black, cut it in half and adhered it behind the first to frame the image and add a little depth. While it doesn't show well in the photo, near the top of the image there is a Rhinestone Basic Jewel (colored with a black Sharpie pen) for a little black bling.

Raven with happy halloween greeting

At the bottom of the card I added the raven (stamped in Basic Black and fussy-cut) and a Halloween greeting from the Teeny Tiny Wishes stamp set.

Did you notice my envelope? Oh yeah, baby! Spooky bats are lining my envelope thanks to the new Envelope Liners Framelits Dies. These dies make lining your envelopes ridiculously easy. Whoever gets this card will know immediately that there's trouble inside (the good kind, of course!).

Then the charm is firm and good.

xoxo
