One Simple Card Three Ways

Stampin' Up! Easy Events Stamp Set Hello Card

These cute hello cards were created for the SoShelli.com challenge this month to create a card with no more than two layers. I got a little carried away and made three cards.  This darling image from the Easy Events stamp set was just too fun to only stamp once!  I also thought it might be fun to "step it up" a little each time, while trying to stay true to the challenge.

Stampin' Up! one layer card

All three cards feature the same watercolored image, stamped directly on a Naturals Ivory card base. For the first (and most simple) card the only addition is Chocolate Chip Scallop Dots Ribbon. And beside the stamp, inks, and paper, the only additional tool necessary was an Aqua Painter (or a Blender Pen).

Alternate version of one layer card

The next version features a snippet of the same ribbon plus two strips of patterned paper from the Summer Smooches collection. The hello sentiment was stamped and then cropped using the Jewelry Tag Punch. Holding it all together is a Designer Printed Brad.

Embellishment detail of one layer card

The little leaves were borrowed from the Every Little Bit stamp set - another fun set with tons of cute images for just about every holiday and occasion and then some.

Two layer card - Stampin' Up! Easy Events Stamp Set

The last card was "stepped up" using the Big Shot and a few tools to add a little more impact.

Scallop Window for Watercolored Image

The little scallop window was created using the Scallop Rectangle Clearlit (outlined using a Stampin' Write Marker) and the new Woodgrain Embossing Folder gave the card lots of texture without distracting from the main image.

The hello sentiment was cropped using the Small Heart Punch and tied to the ribbon with Early Espresso Baker's Twine. A neat feature about the Scallop Dots Ribbon is the solid color on one side and printed polka dots on the other. That's double the versatility - a real plus for the budget.

And there you have it ... one simple card ... three different ways.

xoxo

p.s. Just a few hours left to snag a roll of free ribbon. Five yummy colors of Stitched Satin Ribbon to choose from. Get the details here.

Noel Medallion Wreath Card

Stampin' Up! Daydream Medallions Wreath Card

What a fun Christmas card this turned out to be! I got to try out several new Stampin' Up! products and test out using the Daydream Medallions stamp set and coordinating Framelits to create a holiday wreath. Can't wait to test some more. ;)

The woodgrain background was created using the new Textured Impressions Embossing Folder with Early Espresso Core'dinations Card Stock. The new Stampin' Sanding Block works great - just a light sanding revealed the lighter core color and brought the woodgrain pattern to life.

After stamping the medallion, I cropped the center with a circle punch while there was still "extra" card stock to hold on to. The final cut with the coordinating framelit from the Floral Frames collection completed my wreath shape.

Stampin' Up! Greetings of the Season Stamp Set

Dressing up the wreath are Pearl Basic Jewels, dots of Cherry Cobbler Dazzling Details, and a strip of the new Scalloped Tulle Ribbon tied in a bow around the wreath. The greeting was stamped on a scrap of Very Vanilla and adhered behind the wreath.

For the circular shapes, I embossed scraps with one of the Delicate Designs Embossing Folders and cropped them stratigically with circle punches. (Card layout courtesy of Mojo Monday.)

Halloween Treat Holder Cone

Halloween Treat Holder

This Halloween Treat Holder Cone is fun and easy to make and will look terrific at your ghoulish gatherings!

This four-sided cone goes together quickly thanks to the Petal Cone Die and the Big Shot. The Howlstooth & Scaringbone Designer Series Paper works super for this Halloween project, but will work equally well for Thanksgiving too. The die creates the circular flaps as part of the cut and those could certainly be left just as is.

I chose to add a little contrast by die-cutting card stock for the flaps and in place of the scallop piece from the die, substituted a black doily half created with the Delicate Doilies Sizzlet.  For the handle, I created a zig-zag strip of card stock using the Finishing Touches Edgelit, then simply placed a die-cut handle on either side of the strip. It is held in place on the inside of the cone with Black Glimmer Brads.

Inside of Treat Cone

HIP TIP: Scraps of card stock make the perfect "shredded filler" for the cone. Simply use a paper trimmer to cut super thin strips and run them through a paper crimper or scrunch them up.

Stampin' Up! Spooky Bingo Bits Stamp Set

The Spooky Bingo Bits stamp set provides the perfect sentiment for yummy treats. I used Stampin' Write Markers (More Mustard, Tangerine Tango, Basic Black) to ink the stamp to achieve the graduation of color (ombre).

One more tip: be sure to wait to fill the treat cones until just before your guests arrive. For some reason the treats don't seem to stay in these treat cones. I have no idea where they go. ;)

Amazing Birthday for the Guys

Stampin' Up! You're Amazing Stamp Set - Masculine Birthday Card

This dashing masculine card is headed to my college-student nephew, who will be celebrating a birthday next week.

The You're Amazing Stamp Set works well for masculine cards, with large images and greetings - perfect for embossing. The artwork is reminiscent of an old-fashioned traveling circus or maybe the fair. Either way, it's perfect for young and old alike.

Leaving lots of "white space" with just one or two special details, will seal the deal when it comes to handmade cards for the guys.

Vintage Hot Air Balloon - Artwork by Stampin' Up!

Paper-piercing adds interest to the accent piece without being fussy. The accent is die-cut using the Apothecary Accents Framelit die (and the Big Shot). The piercing was truly a breeze with the new Essentials Paper-Piercing Pack.

The Crumb Cake button is "sewn" in place with a snippet of card stock rather than ribbon or twine for a clean, polished look.

The banner, created from First Edition Specialty Designer Series Paper, is "held" in place with small brads that look like miniature buttons (Vintage Trinkets).

Happy Birthday Greeting

The big birthday greeting was stamped with Midnight Muse ink and heat embossed.

HIP TIP: The new Stampin' Up! Firm Foam Classic Ink Pads are juicy! To emboss using Classic Ink, simply stamp as usual, then immediately cover with embossing powder and heat set. The key is to work very quickly before the ink dries!

Mixed Blooms For You

Stampin' Up! Mixed Medley Hostess Stamp Set

This simple and pretty card gave me a chance to try out some new Stampin' Up! products along with one of my current favorite patterned papers - Howlstooth & Scaringbone Designer Series Paper. Now who would've thought with a name like that you could produce such lovely flowers?!

The real inspiration for this card started with the new Mixed Medley Hostess Stamp Set featured in the Holiday Catalog. The set covers numerous occasions with a mix and match quality that will make it super versatile.

The stamp set also coordinates with the 3/4" Circle Punch and the new (smaller) 1-1/4" Scallop Circle Punch - perfect for layering with the larger scallop circles and a welcome addition to the punch offerings.

For You Card with Stampin' Up! Punches

Add "petals" to any scallop circle by snipping in-between the scallops, as done on the gray polka-dot flower. The Blossom Punch creates beautifully edged flower blossoms as do the Floral Frames Framelits (love all the different sizes and shapes from this set of dies!).

The background detail, from the Creative Elements stamp set, was clear embossed directly on Crumb Cake card stock, providing a pretty backdrop for added interest and texture, without stealing attention away from the main elements.

Happy Friday - enjoy your weekend!

xoxo

Arggg Matey ... Trick or Treat

Stampin' Up! Owl Builder Punch Pirates

Arrgg. Happy Talk Like a Pirate Day!

I think punch-art is cute and fun, but I don't really do it very often anymore. I much prefer stamping and watercoloring and pretty paper and ribbon. But, hey, every once in a while you just have to play a different game. And today was the day.

Sooo matey's ... I pulled out the trusty Owl Builder Punch and created a few owl pirates. Hee!  I tried to create sand and water, but the owls, er Pirates, covered up the background and the water just looked like sky. So I added clouds (using the Cupcake Builder Punch) and called it a day.  (And this is why I don't do this sort of thing a lot.)

The hardest part though, was deciding which paper patterns to use from the Howlstooth & Scaringbone Designer Series Paper Collection. Love this collection for the versatility and patterns.

We'll be returning to our regularly scheduled programming tomorrow. Arrggggggg.

xoxo

This week's digital downloads by Stampin' Up! provide an assortment of holiday themes for your digital scrapbook pages, cards and more. Can you guess which sweet selection is my favorite?

Stampin' Up! Make a Mitten Stamp Brush Set Digital Download

Stampin' Up! Sweet Peppermint Ensemble Digital Kit

Stampin' Up! Timeless Taffeta Trimmings - Digital Download

My favorite? If you said the Sweet Peppermint Ensemble you'd be half right - because I'm torn between the cuteness of that digital kit and the Homemade Happiness Frameable.

Isn't it clever how they put a real gingerbread recipe into an adorable home decor piece. And what's more, you not only get the designer template (8-1/2" x 11"), but also 12 embellishments and a 25-piece SVG stamp brush set to use on other projects. Think digital scrapbook pages of holiday baking with the family. Too cute!
