Simply Stunning Thank You

Stampin' Up! Clean & Simple Card Ideas

Is it possible to create cards that are simple, yet stunning? That was the question this month over at the SoShelli.com Creative Challenge. (The answer, by the way, is absolutely! Sometimes less is more.)  My simple idea turned out just as beautiful as I imagined it - clean, crisp lines with a small watercolored bouquet. I do wish you could see these cards in person - they ARE simply stunning. If I do say so myself! ;)

I created two versions - one standard size and one using Stampin' Up! Note Cards. The classic 5" x 3-1/2" Note Cards in Whisper White come packaged with coordinating envelopes and are a great choice for beginning stampers/card makers.

Stampin' Up! Elegant Thank You Note Card

Both cards start with a Whisper White card base, layered with a panel of textured  Whisper White card stock (attached with Stampin' Dimensionals). I used the Simply Scored (scoring tool) to create simple lines in the card stock to imitate an embossed look. This adds interest and texture in a very elegant, subtle way.

HIP TIP: Textured card stock has a "good side" that you'll want facing outward. To create the embossed (raised) lines, I turned the card stock "face down" on the scoring tool so the indented score lines would be raised on the "good side" when I flipped the card stock over.

Clean & Simple Ideas For Handmade Cards

The thank you sentiment, from the Curly Cute stamp set, was stamped with Rose Red ink. Need help with straight lines and perfect placement?  For wood mounted stamps, I recommend using a Stamp-a-ma-jig. For clear mount rubber stamps, try the Perfectly Placed Guides - repositionable die-cut guides for clear blocks.

Stampin' Up! Clear Block Positioning Guide Grid Labels

The sweet floral bouquet, from the new Bordering on Romance stamp set, was stamped on Watercolor Paper using StazOn ink and colored using an Aqua Painter and classic ink pads. For just a tiny bit of sparkle, I added a little Dazzling Details to the flower centers. After hand cutting the bouquet, it was attached with Stampin' Dimensionals, which really makes it pop from the card.

Watercolored - Bordering on Romance Stamp Set - Stampin' Up!

These cards were quick and easy to create and have a simple elegance that is timeless. With a change of sentiment, they would be perfect for numerous occasions, especially birthday, get well, and sympathy cards.  Hooray for simply stunning!

Happiest Birthday Card

Vintage Birthday Card Idea with Stampin' Up! Apothecary Art Stamp Set

This pretty hand-stamped birthday card was one of the projects for a recent workshop I held celebrating the new Occasions Mini Catalog and Sale-a-bration kickoff. The card inspiration came from Stampin' Up! in the monthly magazine for demonstrators. They always have really inspiring project ideas! I switched up the patterned paper and colors, but kept the same sketch. Love this color combo!

The gorgeous background paper is from the Everyday Enchantment Designer Series Paper collection (one of the free Sale-a-bration selections), as is the largest of the die-cut label shapes.  The smaller label and the sentiment are from the new Apothecary Art stamp set, a beautiful set with a Victorian-era nod for easily creating projects with a vintage look and feel.

Apothecary Art Stamp Set with Labels Collection Framelits

The Apothecary Art rubber stamps are specifically designed to coordinate with the new Labels Collection Framelits dies for the Big Shot. If you've ever wished you could easily create vintage looking projects, this is what you've been waiting for!

HIP TIP: Stamp the image(s) first and then simply position the Framelits die over the image for cutting.

The sweet layered flower was created with the Boho Blossoms punch from Poppy Parade card stock. I crumpled them a bit before stacking them and attaching the brad through the center.

My Big Fat Party Hat Birthday (Card)

Quick & Easy Party Hat Birthday Card

Not mine, mind you. Obviously, I'm not 3. But my cutie-patootie niece just turned 3 and I created this fun birthday card just for her. And I took a few shortcuts, which made this card super quick and easy to create.

The patterned paper is from the Just Add Cake Designer Series Paper collection, which has been a go-to choice for bright and fun projects. It was practically a no-brainer for this card! For the hat shape, I cheated eliminated having to figure out measurements by using the largest pennant on the Perfect Pennants Die and one zip through the Big Shot.

The Big Top Birthday Quick Accents dressed up the hat nicely - another shortcut. (The Quick Accents are die-cut and self-adhesive, so you just stick them right on your project.) I grabbed a number three from the Merry Medley On Board Chipboard pack and inked it with Old Olive Craft Ink.

While that dried, I created a cute little pom-pom using the new Lucky Limeade Baker's Twine. To do that, simply loop twine around your fingers, slide it off and tie a piece of twine around the middle of the loops to gather and secure them. Snip the loops at both ends and fluff. That's it.

The birthday greeting, from the Curly Cute stamp set, was inked using a Stampin' Write Marker so I could stamp one word above the other instead of in one continuous line. (I used my trusty Stamp-a-ma-jig for perfect placement.)  For this technique, I inked just the word "birthday" and stamped. The next step is very important: clean and dry the stamp. Then I inked up the word "happy" and stamped above the first word.

I attached my dry chipboard number using Stampin' Dimensionals; the pom-pom was attached with a Mini Glue Dot.  And there you have it. My Big Fat Party Hat Birthday Card! This makes a great children's birthday card, but with a few changes you could certainly create an adult version as well. Don't you think?

xoxo

Apothecary Art Elegant Birthday

Stampin' Up! Apothecary Art Stamp Set Card Idea

This elegant birthday card looks complex, but it's actually fairly easy to create using some new creative tools from Stampin' Up! Let's start with the fold of the card itself.  It's a standard card base measuring 4-1/4" x 5-1/2", then the card front is scored down the middle (at 2-1/8") and folded back.  To create the fancy edge work, I simply placed the new "bracket" shaped Edgelits Die along the edge of the card stock and ran it through the Big Shot.

Fancy Fold Handmade Birthday Card

To finish the card base, I added Pool Party card stock inside, stamped with the bird and Happy Birthday images from the free sale-a-bration* stamp set, Elementary Elegance. On the two facing panels, I added strips of patterned paper from the Everyday Enchantment Designer Series Paper collection - another exclusive sale-a-bration product.  (I ran one of the strips through the Big Shot with the same bracket edge die used on the card base.)  A pretty bow created with the new Pool Party Seam Binding Ribbon finishes up the card front beautifully.

Elegant Hand Stamped Birthday Card

Now for the lovely focal image!  I used the new Labels Collection Framelits Dies to die-cut the two largest label shapes from Lucky Limeade card stock and the Everyday Enchantment paper.

Next I stamped the "For You" image from the Apothecary Art stamp set two times using Pool Party ink on Whisper White card stock. One image was die-cut using the Labels Framelits Die and the other was cropped with a 1" Circle Punch.

Handmade Birthday Card Rubber Stamping Details

The full label was turned vertically and adhered to the larger labels using Stampin' Dimensionals. The center flower image was dabbed with a bit of color using an Aqua Painter before attaching it with Dimensionals. Two tiny pearls finish the center frame.

HIP TIP: Take care using an Aqua Painter on images stamped with classic ink (non-waterproof). For best results, make sure the Aqua Painter is just damp (not dripping wet!) when you pick up color from the ink pad; then lightly DAB the ink onto the image as desired. Do not attempt any blending techniques - it will blur and/or smear the stamped image.

Well Worn Birthday

Handmade Stamped Masculine Birthday Card Idea

With a load of birthdays on the horizon, I'm in full birthday card mode this week. At the top of my list was a masculine card  for one of my sweet nephews and I'm hoping he will like this card created especially for him.

Armed with another great Mojo sketch for inspiration and a pack of Well Worn Designer Series Paper, I dove right in. The most difficult part? Deciding WHICH patterned paper I wanted to use from this terrific collection! This paper is part of the Well Worn Product Suite and features rich, earthy colors with an aged and distressed appearance - perfect for a variety of projects from greeting cards to scrapbooks & journals to home decor projects.

Birthday Candles - Pretty Postage Stamp Set by Stampin' Up!

The background layer, in Early Espresso, was textured using the Square Lattice Embossing Folder and the Big Shot. For the banners, I flagged the ends using a 1-1/4" square punch and sponged the edges just a bit, before attaching them with Metallic Brads. Instead of ribbon, I opted for natural Twill Tape, also anchored by Metallic Brads.

The focal image, from the Pretty Postage stamp set, was inked using Stampin' Write Markers and cropped with the 1-3/8" Circle Punch. I created my own custom "scallop circle" by punching 1/2" circles from card stock and arranging them around the outer edges of the Very Vanilla piece.

Sale-a-bration Promotion Begins January 24!

It's almost here - just one week to go until the Stampin' Up! Sale-a-bration begins. I can hardly wait. The new collection of exclusive Sale-a-bration products is outstanding, and there are terrific options from the Idea Book & Catalog available as well. Be Mine, Valentine

Clean & Simple Valentine Card Idea

Get the conversation started with this clean and simple Valentine Card. It features the new À la Carte rubber stamp, Candy Conversations, from Stampin’ Up! In addition to being really cute, I think it is also fairly versatile as far as single stamps go - there are a lot of ways to play around with this one. I'm also a lifelong fan of those little candy hearts!

I had the basic idea for this card in my head and then toyed with adding this or that, but in the end nixed those ideas in favor of keeping it simple. With this design you can switch out colors to create a Valentine card appropriate for anyone - man, woman, or child. Valentine's Day seems to be a real challenge for creating "masculine cards", doesn't it?

Valentine Card Stamped With Candy Conversations Stamp Set by Stampin' Up!

The main image was stamped on Whisper White card stock - using markers to color the sentiment and arrow.  The row of hearts were stamped (in each of the three colors) and cropped with the Small Heart Punch, then placed over the original image using Stampin' Dimensionals.

To create the fun shape I used the new Framelits Die (Labels Collection) for the Big Shot.

HIP TIP: Framelits are designed to cut one layer at a time. I simply placed the Framelits Die over my pre-stamped white layer to position it exactly where I wanted to cut it.

So wadda-ya-say, Valentine, got any sweet talk for me?!

xoxo

Dazzling Love - WOW Techniques

Valentine Love Handmade Card Idea

This dazzling little Valentine card is, of course, aimed at the heart like one of Cupid's arrows. However, I think it could also be used as a sweet wedding or anniversary card as well. All the credit for this little gem goes to Stampin' Up! It was featured in the January issue of Stampin' Success, a monthly magazine the company sends out exclusively to their demonstrators. Yea for perks!

The sparkly background was created by stamping the flourish from the Creative Elements stamp set onto card stock, then using Cherry Cobbler Dazzling Details (glitter glue) to "trace" the outline. The applicator tip is small enough to allow you great control as you apply it - although you may want to practice a few lines first. This WOW technique is pretty fun!

Stampin' Up! Creative Elements Valentine Card

For the sentiment, I tried a tricky "wheely" cool technique: I used a marker to ink the word love on the I {Love} Love Jumbo Wheel. Then I carefully positioned it and rolled it by hand onto the stamped vintage banner piece.

No, I didn't use the Jumbo Handle for the wheel, I rolled just the wheel.

Yes, it takes a little practice. Totally worth the effort!

The beautiful butterfly (also from the Creative Elements stamp set) was stamped using Cherry Cobbler ink on Blushing Bride card stock. I then carefully added a layer of Crystal Effects. Once it dries, it is very glossy and rich looking. The butterfly is hand cut, adorned with Basic Pearls and attached with Stampin' Dimensionals.

HIP TIP: Be sure to allow plenty of drying time for both Dazzling Details and Crystal Effects. I recommend 30 minutes for thin applications and an hour or more for thicker applications.

I just realized ... that's THREE techniques on this card, which I guess makes today's post a Triple Threat Technique Thursday. Hee!  Hope you are inspired to try one. Or three.

xoxo

Artistic Etchings + Valentine = Amour

Vintage Inspired Valentine's Day Card Idea

Today's card was inspired by this week's Mojo Monday Sketch, which gave me the opportunity to play with some new (or new to me) Stampin' Up! products. The first "new to me" product is the stunning Mocha Morning Specialty Paper. I love this collection, and this pattern in particular - with the elegant black flocking.

The Riding Hood Red panel is embossed using the Stripes* Textured Impressions Embossing Folder. The folder adds depth and interest without being too busy or stealing the show. I've used it on bright, fun cards as well as on elegant, richly colored cards and it compliments any style very nicely.
*Earn this Embossing Folder FREE during Sale-a-bration!

Artistic Etchings Stamp Set by Stampin' Up!

The shape below the sentiment was die-cut using the new Labels Collection Framelits Dies. I'm thrilled we now have this line of innovative dies. I'll be using them a LOT.  The Riding Hood Red Pleated Satin Ribbon (swoon) is simply stunning. It's perfect for all of us no-sew folks and I won't be spending hours trying to create evenly folded pleats while I use up an entire box of mini glue dots. Hee!

The smaller rosette was created by punching several scallop circles, then using the Simply Scored Tool for scoring before cutting each one in half. They are then accordian folded and finally all the pieces are glued together to create the full rosette. It was topped with a Boho Blossoms Punch flower and an Antique Brad.

The larger circle features a heat embossed image using Pewter Embossing Powder - introduced in the Holiday Mini Catalog. (This item has been held over and is still available to order.) The fancy scallop circle behind the embossed image is die-cut using the Perfect Pennants Bigz Die.

This would obviously make a great Valentine card, but it could also be an Anniversary card or even a Just-Because-I-Love-You-Any-Ole-Day-of-the-Week Card.  How's that for AMOUR?!

xoxo

Hand Stamped Get Well Wishes

Handmade Get Well Greeting Card

January is a great time to stamp general occasion cards for the coming year, especially sympathy and get well cards. Because these are unexpected occasions and you won't have advance notice, it's a good time to create a few of these greeting cards now, to have ready just in case.

I chose an image from the gorgeous new stamp set, Bordering on Romance, for my focal image and colored it using classic inks and an Aqua Painter. The image is popped onto a hand cut "frame" embossed with the Designer Frames Embossing Folder.

Stampin' Up! Greeting Card Idea - Get Well Soon

The frame sits atop a Poppy Parade panel enhanced with a simple strip of Everyday Enchantment Designer Series Paper (Sale-a-bration Sneak Peek). The panels were mounted on Naturals White card stock, spritzed and sponged with Soft Suede ink.

Tying it all up is Soft Suede Taffeta Ribbon paired with delicate Calypso Coral Organdy Ribbon (Sale-a-bration Sneak Peek) and finished with a coordinating Printed Designer Brad.
