Christmas Crafts: Wine Bottle Gift Tags

Holiday Craft Ideas Using Decorative Punches

Create charming wine/bottle tags perfect for gift giving during the holidays in a snap! This tag looks complex, but goes together very quickly allowing you to easily create a little stash of these to have on hand. With lots of holiday parties coming up, this is a super hostess/gift idea. But these tags are perfect on just about any similar type bottle, such as bath oils, bath salts, infused cooking oils and viniagrettes - just to name a few.

The scallop tag shape is die-cut using the Two Tags Bigz Die and the Big Shot. To crop the opening, the 1-3/8" Circle punch works beautifully. Score the tag just below the opening, to allow it to hang properly, and add stamped images and/or embellishments and you are good to go!

Christmas Craft Ideas - Wine Bottle Gift Tags

I'm hooked on the little 3-d Pennant Punch Tree, so it HAD to go on this tag! To create the tree, stamp a pennant/tree image from the Pennant Parade stamp set (if desired) three times and crop each one with the Petite Pennants Builder Punch. Score each tree down the middle and fold with the image on the inside. Glue the three folded trees together lining up the scallops and allow to dry before unfolding the tree to adhere to the project.

Wasn't that quick and easy?! Seriously, you could whip out a stack of these in no time flat!

Maybe you could make them while you are waiting for your Stampin' Up! Online Extravaganza bargains to arrive.  I HOPE you didn't miss this crafty sale!! Last day to save up to 60% is Wednesday, Nov. 30. CLICK HERE to check out the sale now.

I sure do love a good sale. Don't you?

Christmas Crafts: Simple Ornament

Elegant Handmade Paper Christmas Ornament

I just love this clean and simple ornament. I received it last Christmas from my friend Maria, and after a stint on the tree, it has adorned my craft room door ever since!

The Big Shot makes this an easy project to create. The Whisper White base is die-cut using the Scallop Circle Bigz Die. Next, two circles are cut (at the same time!) from Whisper White using the Circle Clear Die, then one circle is embossed using the Elegant Lines Embossing Folder. These are glued together and adhered to the Scallop Circle.

Holiday Craft Ideas - Easy Paper Ornament

Letters are cut using the Serif Essentials Alphabet Dies, one each in Cherry Cobbler and White Glitter Foam, then layered onto the circle. A simple Cherry Cobbler flower is created using the 5-Petal Flower Punch to crop three flower layers; then crumpled, spritzed with water and allowed to dry. The layers are then smoothed out, glued together and attached to the project using Stampin' Dimensionals. Basic Rhinestones finish the project nicely.

Now that it's tree trimming time, this beauty goes back on the tree!

Like this project? Do you make ornaments at your house? Comments, please! ;)

Let's "Owl" Give Thanks For Paper Crafting!

Paper Owls Using Decorative Punches

These little cuties have "owl" gathered together to give thanks for fashionable attire for Thanksgiving Dinner (hee hee)!

What a fun and easy paper-crafts project, and it would be great to do with the kids during the holiday weekend. Much thanks to Linda Knowles for her clever inspiration for this project.

The owl "body" is actually a Pillow Box (die-cut in the Big Shot) decorated with simple punched shapes from card stock and patterned paper.  I used the gorgeous Paisley Petals Designer Series Paper from Stampin' Up! and coordinating card stock in Crumb Cake, Soft Suede, and Calypso Coral.

Paper Owl Big Shot Project

Working from the bottom up, simply punch "feet" using the 5-Petal Flower punch, "feathers" using the 1" Circle punch, "beak" using the Heart to Heart punch, "wings" using the Large Oval punch, and "eyes" using the 1/2" and 1" Circle punches.

For the "girl" owls, I gave them cute bows tied from Soft Suede Taffeta Ribbon. These would be darling in a Christmas theme as well and would make cute holiday decorations or stocking stuffers with a yummy treat or small gift inside.

Hope y' owl have a super duper Thanksgiving weekend!
xoxo

How To Make A Paper Poinsettia

Create a Paper Poinsettia for Holiday Craft Projects

I featured this Poinsettia Christmas Card in yesterdays post and today we'll take a closer look at creating the Poinsettia Flower itself.

The individual petals were cropped using the Blossom Petals Builder Punch (Stampin' Up!). Each layer needs eight petals punched from Cherry Cobbler card stock (I used scraps).

After looking at Poinsettia photos, I determined that the LEAF stamps (from the Build a Blossom stamp set) would actually look the most realistic to mimic the veins in the flowers. Go figure.

The petals are now stamped using Cherry Cobbler ink. Don't stress about stamping them "perfectly".

Next we give the petals some shape. I used a large stylus; you could also use the end of a white gel pen. (This Empressor Stylus [Item# 100716] is currently available in the Online Store Clearance Rack - while supplies last.)  A small tipped stylus will not produce the "cupping" technique that is desired for this flower.

You'll need a dense foam type material under the petal as you work. I used the paper-piercing pad from the Mat Pack. Work the stylus in a circular motion in the center of the petal. This will create a slight "cup" in the center of the petal and the ends will begin to rise up.

Continue this technique for each of the 16 flower petals.

Use a scrap of card stock as a base for your petals - I punched a 1-3/8" circle for the larger petals, which works well.  I've drawn lines across the circle to demonstrate the placement of the petals (you don't need to do this).

Glue the petals to the circle in a spiral pattern, with each petal overlapping the one before it. Follow the same procedure for the smaller petals. When finished, you should have two flower layers.  Attach the smaller layer to the larger layer using Stampin' Dimensionals.

Christmas Crafts with Rubber Stamping and Decorative Punches

Add Glass Glitter or Basic Pearls to the center of the flower. Your Poinsettia is now complete and will look beautiful on greeting cards, gift tags, gift bags and more!

Please leave me a comment if you have any questions and I hope you enjoyed this project.

Thanks for visiting!
xoxo

Christmas Crafts: Poinsettia Holiday Card

Handstamped Paper Poinsettia Christmas Card

Wouldn't it be fun to send everyone a Christmas Poinsettia this year? Well, now you can and it's guaranteed to still be in glorious bloom when it gets there!

Before I continue, I'd like to thank (& credit) Linda Fisher for providing the inspiration and (unbeknown to her) the challenge to use Stampin' Up! decorative punches to create this paper Poinsettia. (She felt it couldn't be done and that sounds like a creative challenge if I ever heard one. Hee!  Actually, I think she was mostly worried about proportion, but I solved that for my card.)

The card design is quite simple, with a Cherry Cobbler base and a Whisper White center panel layered onto Garden Green with a Whisper White Scallop Trim Border.

Stampin' Up! Build a Blossom and Fabulous Florets Stamp Sets

The greenery, stamped in Garden Green ink, is the stem and leaves image from the Fabulous Florets stamp set. I inked just the leaves to stamp it near the top of the panel, then inked the entire stamp and stamped again positioning the stamp near the bottom of the panel. (This expands the greenery image to accommodate the size of the Poinsettia.) In addition, I stamped a few single leaves, filling in a few areas, allowing them to peek out from behind the flower.

Now for the fun part! The flower petals were created using the Blossom Petals Builder punch along with the Build a Blossom stamp set.

HIP TIP: Punch first and then stamp. Doing this allows you to use scraps to punch from and you won't waste precious card stock.

Creating a Paper Poinsettia with Stampin' Up! Punches

The petals were given shape by "cupping" them and slightly bending the tips. To assemble, the petals were glued to a small circle of card stock in a spiral pattern. The two layers (8 petals each) were attached using Stampin' Dimensionals to give the flower lots of texture and dimension. Three small Basic Pearls in the center complete the flower.

The greeting, from the Four the Holidays stamp set, was stamped using Cherry Cobbler ink on a Whisper White banner with the ends "flagged".

For a more in-depth look and a few tips on creating this beautiful paper Poinsettia, please check back tomorrow. I'll be posting more photos and the steps to create this traditional Christmas flower.

Thanks for visiting!
xoxo

Pennant Parade Wish Big Birthday Card

This fun and easy pocket card comes complete with its own banner and lots of big birthday wishes. If you're always on the lookout for great "masculine cards", this hand stamped card is suitable for any age or gender.

For the "pocket" I started with Wild Wasabi card stock, cut in half lengthwise and then scored at 1-1/2" and 5-1/2". (Fold in half at the 5-1/2" score, then fold back the "flap" at the score mark.) The Scallop Edge Border Punch gave the flap a little added interest and coordinates with the scalloped pennants.

The pennants were cropped, using the Petite Pennants Builder Punch, from Early Espresso card stock and Just Add Cake Designer Series Paper. Using the Handheld 1/16" Circle punch, I punched holes for the Baker's Twine to thread through, then tied the twine in a bow atop the pennants.

HIP TIP: Under the flap, I stapled the "front" piece to the "back" piece right next to edge of the card stock on either side. This creates the "pocket". The "flap" conceals the staples and the ends of the Baker's Twine tucked underneath and taped down.

The inner card measures 3-3/4" x 5" and the corners were rounded at the top with the Corner Rounder Punch. I created a tab from Early Espresso card stock using the Round Tab Punch, then added the "wish big" sentiment from the Pennant Parade stamp set which was cropped with the 3/4" Circle Punch. The larger "wishes" sentiment is from the greeting stamp set Heard From The Heart.

Got Big Wishes? I hope they ALL come true!!
xoxo
