Bravo For Elements of Style

Stampin' Up! Elements of Style Card Idea

I can finally share this card with you, knowing it has reached the hands of the birthday girl (hey, Debbie!). I really like trying different techniques with the Elements of Style stamp set because it looks great no matter what you do - including no color at all (check it out HERE).

For this card, I chose to heat emboss the image before water coloring. I don't do it every time, but I do like using that technique occasionally. Not only does it lend a bit of added texture, it also provides a slight barrier if you desire a "neater" watercolor effect.

Water Coloring Embossed Image Technique

HIP TIP: Many rubber stamp images meant for water coloring actually look better by NOT being so neat and tidy. A little overlap here and there gives the artwork a more authentic watercolor look and feel.  For most of us, going "outside the lines" seems to be a difficult concept to grasp. It probably stems from childhood ... but that's "a different Oprah". Hee!

While this card was used for a birthday, it can certainly be used for any occasion. Inside the card I stamped a birthday sentiment, but you could use any type of sentiment or even none at all and simply write your own message.

Hand Stamped Greeting For You

For the water coloring, I layered Pink Pirouette, Pretty In Pink, and Bravo Burgundy. To add the Dazzling Diamonds I applied small dots of Two-Way Glue to the image before sprinkling on the glitter. The "for you" sentiment was hand cut, layered on a 1" Circle, and popped up on the card with Stampin' Dimensionals.

World Card Making Day is Tomorrow!

What will you be doing? Are you planning to participate in some way? I've got a cute project or two up my sleeve to share with you tomorrow, so stop by if you have a little time. Meanwhile, leave me a comment and tell what you'll be creating to celebrate the day.

Have a "stylish" day!
xoxo

Stampin' Card Keeper Box

Decorated Stampin' Card Keeper by Stampin' Up!

Have you seen the Card Keeper Box in the Stampin' Up! Holiday Mini Catalog? Convention attendees were lucky enough to receive one this year as part of our Make & Take projects. All of the projects were terrific (as usual), but the Card Keeper was really over the top beautiful.

Stampin' Card Keeper Box by Stampin' Up!

The box itself is made of sturdy chipboard, covered with smooth white paper, and ready for super easy assembly. While you could certainly leave it bare (gasp), the real fun is in the decorating! You can choose to dress up the box as little or as much as you like and the kit includes template patterns to use if you'd like to cover the box with Designer Series Paper.

Stampin' Up! Card Keeper Box Sample Idea

The sample box shown in the Holiday Mini Catalog (page 35) is simply decorated with Spice Cake Designer Series Paper, card stock, and the new Quilted Satin Ribbon. For our Convention project, we created an elaborate flower embellishment for the lid, which we also covered with fabric from the Timeless Portrait Designer Fabric Collection.

Flower Embellishment for Stampin' Card Keeper

The flower embellishment was created using numerous punches, including the new Lace Ribbon Punch. After punching a long strip of card stock with the punch, sections of it were cut individually to create small "lace flowers". These were added to layers (and layers) of flowers created using the Fancy Flower and Blossom Petals punches. It was a bit time consuming, but it looks absolutely stunning!

Stampin' Up! Card Keeper Organizing Box

Yes, I'm totally showing it off. Hee! Actually, I wanted to share a few photos with you to demonstrate another option for decorating the box if you are considering purchasing one. They also will make great gifts: you could fill the box with handmade cards ready for sending or you may know someone who receives and SAVES the treasured cards YOU send. This box would make a lovely keeper for hand-stamped cards received throughout the years.

So ... what do you think of today's featured project? It's a KEEPER, right? Bwahahahaha!! Thanks for visiting and remember - comments are ALWAYS welcome at Stampingville.
xoxo

Easy Christmas Mini Gift Note

Christmas stamp Easy Events by Stampin' Up!

As soon as I saw the Christmas image in the Easy Events stamp set, I knew I wanted to color the berries and top them off with Crystal Effects. While it doesn’t show up well in the photo, it looks great in person.

Using Crystal Effects is an easy way to add detail to projects. Because it’s a clear lacquer, it can be used as a finishing product as well as an excellent way to adhere embellishments. Depending on your use of Crystal Effects, just allow a bit of drying time. For small or thinner applications 30-60 minutes is sufficient, while larger or thicker applications may need several hours.

Mini Christmas Note Card Sample

Isn’t the new quilted satin ribbon gorgeous?! I absolutely love it in Cherry Cobbler and it adds such a polished look to projects. This 3x3 gift note is going to look great on a present under the tree!

The Easy Events set is a terrific all-occasion stamp set. While it makes the perfect stamp set for someone just getting started rubber stamping, experienced stampers will really appreciate it too!

Stampin' Up! Stitched Stockings With Bling

Playing with the new Stitched Stockings stamp set and coordinating Stocking Builder Punch is too much fun. Adding instant glam is a cinch with the new Silver Glimmer Paper – a no mess alternative to glitter providing lots of bling! I love the look of glitter, but really hate the mess it can make. Do you struggle with this too? Give the Glimmer Paper a try. It’s quick, easy, and looks fabulous.

Speaking of quick and easy, the Stocking Builder punch makes quick work out of cropping the stamped stocking images. But don’t stop there! Fire up your creativity to use the punched shapes in other ways too: a shortened version of the stocking becomes a baby bootie or turn it upside down and you’ve got a great start on a hobby horse.

One more quickie to add to the list is the new Snow Burst Embossing Folder. This seasonal addition to the selection of Textured Impressions Embossing Folders is a super way to add interest to any project. Just one zip through the Big Shot and it’s ready to go.

Today’s quick Christmas card features rubber stamps, punches, and other new products from the Stampin’ Up! Holiday Mini Catalog. View it online now by clicking on the catalog photo in the sidebar at right. If you would like one mailed to you, request your own copy here.

Have a quick and easy week and thanks for stopping by!

Grateful & Always Thankful, Part 2

Watercolored Greeting Card Always Thankful by Stampin' Up!

With less muss and fuss (hee!), here's version two of my Grateful card from yesterday featuring the Always Thankful stamp set.

The Soft Suede background gets added texture from a zip through the Big Shot in the Square Lattice Embossing Folder. The Twill Tape is mounted on a strip of Old Olive using Vintage Trinket brads and the ends were frayed just a little.

The greeting was simply stamped, cropped with the oval punch, and sponged around the edges. The watercolored focal image was created using markers, classic ink pads and an Aqua Painter and then layered on Cajun Craze.

Water Coloring Technique for Hand Stamped Card

HIP TIP: If you would like to improve your watercoloring skills, you need to know these three things - practice, practice, practice. Seriously. I'm learning and improving every time I watercolor. And loving it more and more every time too!

Grateful & Always Thankful - Part 1

Always Thankful stamp set by Stampin' Up!

I created two versions of the same card (basically) using Always Thankful, a gorgeous new Autumn-themed stamp set from the Stampin' Up! Holiday Mini Catalog. Today's card is the distressed-look version and tomorrow I'll show you a simpler version.

I pulled out my Distressing Essentials Kit and used the Tea Stain ink spot on several elements of the card, including the Naturals White card base. The Cajun Craze layer took a spin through the Big Shot in the Square Lattice Textured Impressions Embossing Folder and also received a few "tea stains" around the edges.

Watercoloring sample technique Always Grateful

The torn layer of Old Olive was crumpled, tea stained, and in a few areas the layers were pulled apart slightly. The focal image was stamped on Watercolor Paper using Jet Black StazOn ink, then water-colored using markers, classic ink pads, and an Aqua Painter. A little tea stain around the edges and one distressed corner tie into the look.

Heat Embossed Greeting - Always Grateful by Stampin' Up!

The brads in opposite corners are Vintage Trinkets. I created the "ribbon" by tea staining Twill Tape - I love how that brought out the texture! For the greeting, I stamped using VersaMark on Naturals White, heat embossed using clear embossing powder, sponged on Old Olive ink, then cropped it with the oval punch.

HIP TIP: Add depth to water-colored images using "layers" of color. Using two or three colors, start with the lightest color first and allow to dry. Add a darker layer in spot areas.

Start each and every day
with a new attitude
and plenty of gratitude.

A Hand-Penned Halloween

Halloween Card Idea With Hand Penned Holidays by Stampin' Up!

BOO! Today I'm sharing a cute and simple Halloween card featuring a smidgen of heat embossing for a little added interest and texture.  The Frightful Sight Designer Series Paper gets things rolling in the background.

HIP TIP: Save on designer series paper by using two strips instead of one solid piece. The center layer will cover up the gap. Use the same process for the Cajun Craze strips. Cut two narrow strips and adhere to the designer series paper before attaching them to the card base.

Heat Embossed Black Halloween Cat

The black embossed "Happy Halloween" greeting is from the new Hand-Penned Holidays stamp set featured in the Holiday Mini Catalog.  (CONFESSION: I honestly wasn't sure if I liked this set upon first glance. However, it has grown on me over time and now I actually like it quite a lot!) You'll be seeing more of this greeting stamp set in the future. ;o)

The Out on a Limb stamp set, also in the Holiday Mini Catalog, is so much fun! The images are "scary cute" and can be mixed and matched in so many ways. Obviously, the cat was a no brainer and those mustach-io'd pumpkins are a riot. Hee!

Mustached Halloween Pumpkins by Stampin' Up!

Notice the black pinking trim? Super easy with the Pinking Hearts Border Punch - I just covered the hearts with my Whisper White layer.

Thanks for dropping by today and Happy Labor Day!
