Happy Birthday and a Countdown

Stampin' Up! Fox & Friends Birthday Card

The countdown is on! The brand spankin' new 2011-2012 Idea Book & Catalog from Stampin' Up! goes live in just a few short hours. I'm so excited!! I don't think I've ever had a longer wish list. Do you have YOUR wish list ready? Online ordering will be available starting at approximately 2 PM Eastern/12 PM Mountain Time.

Fox & Friends stamp set by Stampin' Up!

While you're waiting, I thought I'd share this adorable birthday card I made today for my great-niece who turns three next week. I think it turned out just great and I hope you agree. Of course the ultimate judge will be the little one!  My favorite animal from the Fox & Friends stamp set is the cute little monkey and he loves "hanging out" and encouraging smiles and giggles.

I used several punches for this card, including the Cupcake Builder Punch to create the little cloud. I just cut off a bit of the lower portion of the cupcake top to keep the cloud sized properly.

Remember, if you ever have any questions about a card featured here or about any of the Stampin' Up! products or techniques I've used, I'm just an email away. And I LOVE to read your comments!

xoxo

Just a Note

Embossing technique with Punch Potpourri by Stampin' Up!

Or you might call this a fond farewell letter! I've pulled together a few of my favorite (retiring) Stampin' Up! products for this sweet card. All of the patterned papers are from the Newsprint Designer Series Paper collection. I love the music sheets!

The scrap of Real Red card stock was texturized using the Square Lattice Embossing Folder run through the Big Shot. It truly looks like a piece of fabric (burlap?) in real life. Speaking of red ... I have the hardest time photographing red. It usually looks too orange or too bright. I can always tone it down through photo editing, but if anyone has any tips for me - PLEASE share them. Thank you. We now return to our regularly scheduled program. Hee!

The little square was created using the new Postage Stamp punch. The piece behind it was created using the Scallop Rectangle Clearlit; similar to the sizzlits dies for the Big Shot. Because it's clear it allows you to cut precisely where you want on designer paper or a photo.

The little bird is one of four rubber stamps in the Punch Potpourri Hostess Set and coordinates perfectly with the Two-Step Bird punch. I embossed it using VersaMark ink, black embossing powder and the heat tool. The sentiment, from the Apple Blossoms Hostess Set, was actually the inspiration for this card along with the designer series paper!

Fast & Fabulous Friday: Because I Care

Flower Garden Embossing Folder Card Sample

Hi Stampers! Today's card is a clean and simple (CAS) design that's fast, fabulous and also VERY versatile. Simply swap out the sentiment for any occasion and you're good to go. It looks beautiful in any color combination, so have fun experimenting!  This was another of our June Club projects and it was a BIG hit.

Flower Garden Textured Impressions Embossing Folder - Stampin' Up!

The embossed flower image is created using the new Flower Garden Textured Impressions Embossing Folder and the Big Shot. To add a subtle pop of color to the flowers, simply rub an inked sponge dauber over the embossed image. I really loved the look of adding just a touch of color to the flower centers only, but you can sponge the entire flower if you wish for a more dramatic effect.  This is so quick and fun, you'll want to make lots of them!

Happy Summer!

Stampin' Up! A Touch of Kindness Stamp Set

It's the first day of summer (woo hoo!) so what better way to kick it off than with this adorable little mini card!  This 3x3 card features images from the stamp set Touch of Kindness (Stampin' Up!) and was one of our June club projects.

We got to play with the new Melon Mambo embossing powder along with several punches to create our "simple" but cute card.

How to punch the flower: Anytime you wish to punch out the CENTER of an image in addition to punching out the image itself, always punch out the center FIRST.  For this card, after stamping and embossing, we used a circle punch to punch out the flower center, then punched out the flower image using the scallop circle punch.

Check out the little flower brad - is that not the cutest thing?! Love those!

A Quick Thank You Gift

Stampin' Up! thank you gift box pillow box

I've got about 50 looming deadlines on my plate this week. Do YOU ever have that happen? If one of those includes a little thank you gift, here is a super quick and easy solution. It all starts with the Pillow Box Die and the Big Shot.

Because the die does all the cutting AND scoring for you, the pillow box takes about 5.4 seconds to create! I chose a simple pattern from the Play Date Designer Series Paper to dress up the box. Simply wrap the strip around the box and secure. Fill the box with a small gift, chocolate or another treat and fold the end flaps over. Wrap Baker's Twine around the box a few times and tie in a bow to the side.

Create the little tag using the large and extra-large tag punches; the thanks sentiment from the Pretty Postage stamp set; and a cute little Designer Button. Attach the tag to the box with Stampin' Dimensionals. Aaaaand yer done! Cross THAT to-do off your list and move right along.

I sure wish I could get everything else wrapped up this easily! (pa dum dum)

Red, White and Blue Just For YOU

Stampin' Up! Oval All Stamp Set Card

Gosh. I just realized the 4th of July weekend is only three weeks away. Are you kidding me? Where on earth does the time go?

Here's an easy little 3x3 card that has tons of possibilities. The layered stars were a breeze with the Star Punch. Next, I simply paired Stampin' Up!'s Oval All stamp set with the large oval and scallop oval punches to create the greeting. This will make a great gift card for that early July birthday gift.

Having a picnic or barbeque? Omit the stamped sentiment, and hand write (or use My Digital Studio) menu items on the oval before layering onto the card. These will look great next to your yummy bowls of potato salad, baked beans, and cherry pie.

Still catching up on graduation gifts? No problem.  Swap out the red, white and blue for the grad's school colors and BAM! Ready to go.

This set is great for creating quick little gift cards for numerous occasions, including weddings. Make up several now to have on hand throughout the summer.

Pick a Petal Birthday

When I was just learning to stamp, I fell in love with this card. It was designed by MY Stampin' Up! Demonstrator, who eventually became my "upline" - also known as my coach and mentor. The Pick a Petal stamp set immediately went on my wish list after making this card at one of her events. Sniff, sniff. Sadly, Pick a Petal will retire on June 30, but you still have time to purchase it along with other Stampin' Up! rubber stamps on the Last Chance List. Go here for a complete listing of the retiring stamp sets.

I gave the original design just a few updated touches, including the new Baker's Twine. So cute! Notice the Whisper White scallops? It's not a border punch or a die-cut - those are 3/4" circles lined up next to each other to create the look of a scallop border. Pretty clever, eh? Okay - it wasn't MY idea, but clever just the same. Use this technique to create any size "scallop" your heart desires.

By the way, Pick a Petal is a two-step stampin' set® designed for layering and combining images. Because the images usually overlap, you don't have to worry about "precision" stamping. Just eyeball it and let the chips fall where they may. These are great sets for people who don't like "fussy" stamping. Hee!

A Blast From The Past

I couldn't possibly talk about this stamp set one last time without showing this:

This face has been around the block a time or two, but it's just such a hoot every time you see it! In case you've missed out on this guy previously, his entire face (excluding the black pupils) is created using various stamps from the Pick a Petal stamp set.

Honestly - doesn't it bring a smile to your face? Perfect for get well or cheering someone up.

Hoping your day is all smiles!
xoxo

Eastern Blooms Meets Melon Mambo

Stampin' Up! Eastern Blooms Stamp Set Card Idea

Heat embossing is one of my favorite techniques. Watching the powder melt and rise under the heat is super cool in my book. Then, it seems you just can't help but want to TOUCH an embossed image. The added texture looks great and seems to invite you to run your fingers over it. Are you with me on this one?!

Stampin' Up! Custom-Colored Embossing Powder in Melon Mambo

One of my favorite stamps to heat emboss is the (retiring) Eastern Blooms stamp set by Stampin' Up! With several solid images to choose from, it's a perfect choice for heat embossing. I gave it a go with Melon Mambo - one of Stampin' Up!'s new custom-colored embossing powders and I love how it turned out.

Eastern Blooms Stamp Set + Melon Mambo Embossing Powder

The color combo on this card is Melon Mambo, Basic Black and Sahara Sand. I really like Sahara Sand and use it quite a bit. It's a great neutral to have on hand; sometimes Crumb Cake (Kraft) just doesn't cut it. (I know ... bad pun. Hee!)

I created interesting elements for the card using the Top Note Die (for the Big Shot) and the Decorative Label Punch - but cut away half of each one and layered them.

Stretching Your Craft Supplies

Are you looking for some easy ways to stretch your craft supplies?  I've got a couple of sneaky tricks to show you.

For cards that use several layers, you can stretch your card stock by cutting out "the middle man", so to speak. Let's say your card will have a Sahara Sand base, followed by a layer of Melon Mambo and topped off with a layer of Basic Black. That Melon Mambo layer in the middle isn't doing much under there, is it? It's really just acting as a frame for the Basic Black layer. Right? So why not actually make a frame and save the center piece of card stock.

Craft Supplies Tips and Tricks

It's so easy. Simply cut the layer to the appropriate size for your card. Then, using your paper trimmer, cut out most of the center area of the layer. Just be sure not to cut out too much from the center. The piece you cut out should be slightly smaller than the size of the next layer. Use the cut out center to create embellishments for your card or save it for another project. In this project, you could actually use that center piece to create the Top Note die-cut piece!

Card Stock Saving Tips and Tricks
I did a similar trick to cut the Melon Mambo Decorative Label. After cutting the Top Note piece in half for my card, I punched out the Decorative Label half I needed from that same Top Note piece. Because it's just being used as a layer, it doesn't show. Not only is this a great way to save on card stock, it lightens up the overall weight of your card too!

Save card stock using this trick

Circle Circus For Dad

Masculine Father's Day Card

Do you struggle to create "masculine cards"? Clean simple lines, interesting textures, and rich colors are all elements that contribute to a great looking masculine card.  Today's card features all those elements, in addition to being super fun to create!

The color combo of Tempting Turquoise, Basic Black, and Very Vanilla is fun, classic and perfect for the guys. The Square Lattice embossing folder provides interesting texture behind the wide striped grosgrain ribbon and sentiment.  The sentiment itself, from the All Holidays stamp set, gets special treatment with clear embossing powder.

All Holidays stamp set by Stampin' Up!

To carry over the embossing theme, two of the circles were embossed as well: the smallest circle and the black circle near the center.  TIP: Stamp and emboss the design(s) first, then punch.
All the circles (and the scallop) were popped up with Stampin' Dimensionals and overlapped just slightly giving the entire grouping an energetic boost.

Masculine card - Circle Circus by Stampin' Up!

For that final "special touch", check out the Filigree Designer Brad nestled in like it was born there! Pure genius, right?  Ha.  All the credit goes to the geniuses at Stampin' Up! for consistently providing brilliant coordination.
