Let's Go Sledding

Brrr. It's getting chilly 'round these parts. Somehow that reminded me I hadn't posted this card yet, so here we are with another card using the Merry Crittermas stamp set from Stampin' Up! This stamp set is soooo adorable.

STAR POWER:
  • The cute bunny only needs a dab of coloring, perfect when you're short on time.
  • The Confetti White and Cream card stock will tolerate a bit of watercoloring before pilling up. I used a blender pen with classic inks and used a light touch while blending.
  • Create an easy snow bank: Carefully tear the card stock to resemble a hill. Sponge along the torn edge very lightly for contrast (Marina Mist was used here).
  • Add sparkle to snow with glitter and a 2-Way Glue pen. Super easy!
Going, Going ... Get those wish list items now from the Holiday Mini Catalog. While you DO have until January 3rd to order, I know how busy life gets during December. If there are any items you don't want to miss out on, be sure to get them now.

A few cool ideas you might have overlooked:
  • Raven 1/2" Lace Trim (120988) isn't just for Halloween. Can you say Valentine's? Oo La La!
  • Don't let the names fool you - the Designer Fabric will make darling projects all year long. For a vintage feel try Deck The Halls (121716) or have some fun with Candy Cane Christmas (121715).
  • The coordinating Big Designer Buttons in two color combos - Deck the Halls (121002) and Candy Cane (121718).
  • Tinsel Trim in Clear (120993) or Silver (120994) is sturdy enough for ornaments, project handles and decorating.
  • Design-a-House (120911) can be decorated for any season or style. How about one for you and one for the kids to decorate?
(Please note: Candy Cane Christmas Specialty Designer Series Paper is SOLD OUT.)

Charming Christmas

This is one of my oldies, but goodies - a card I created last year, but it is one of my all time favorites for several reasons. Mainly, this card is simply gorgeous in real life. This photo only captures a portion of the subtle shimmery background created using Champagne Mist Shimmer Paint. If you don't have Shimmer Paint yet, you REALLY need to get some! It's a very versatile and fun thing to have in your stash of goodies.

  • The Charming Stamp Set was debuted along with our Simply Adorned line of charms and chains. While it's fabulous for creating the charm inserts, don't underestimate its uses on cards, scrapbook pages and 3-D items. This is one versatile stamp set.
  • Soft Suede and Rich Razzleberry provide a very non-traditional color combo, especially for Christmas. It looks very rich and luxurious with a hint of vintage.
  • Very Vanilla card stock gets a makeover with lots of Soft Suede sponging. Totally worth the effort!
  • Shimmer paint was applied two ways: with a sponge dauber around the edges, as well as spritzed onto the entire layer in the form of Shimmer Spray.
For instructions on how to make your own Shimmer Spray, GO HERE.

The "mat" behind the oval focal image stirred up lots of excitement last year, as stampers tried to figure out how it was created. Super simple: Punch out two pieces of card stock using the Designer Label punch.

Line them up one above the other, then slide the two pieces together until the straight edges meet (the rounded areas will overlap).

Use a little bit of tape to secure them together. Now you have a custom "mat" perfectly sized for the Wide Oval.

A Little Bit of Christmas

I just realized that you may think I'm stuck in the cute department over here at the Stampingville Studio. Which is great, of course, if you are into cute and cuddly for your projects. If your creative mind prefers a more elegant approach to crafting, fear not! Stay tuned for a few upcoming projects using a more serious approach. Can't wait? Check out this elegant card here or for a vintage approach try this card.

Meanwhile, today our card features images from the Every Little Bit stamp set - one of my favorite new stamp sets. This set is perfect for the beginning stamper as well as "seasoned veterans". With 28 images to choose from you'll have something for every occasion. Add a versatile greeting set and you are good to go. You'll have a little something for every event, season and occasion you can think of.  For a truly great all-purpose greeting set, check out Fabulous Phrases or Teeny Tiny Wishes.

  • I love this color combination and can't wait to use it again: Whisper White, Marina Mist and Crumb Cake (kraft). This makes a sweet Christmas color combo!
  • The smaller size of the images in this set make it a natural to use with our punches. Here I cut 1"x1" squares then layered them onto a punched scallop square.
  • I kept the bling to a minimum, opting for just a tiny bit of glitter on the snowflake and the ornament. You could kick it up a notch by adding glitter to each of the snowflakes as well. Or anywhere else you like!
  • Coloring with markers on these small images is a snap. No worries about perfecting a technique - we're keeping this whimsical, right?
Do you find bow tying difficult? Practice, practice, practice! And choose a softer ribbon to practice with. Stay away from 1/4" and 5/8" Grosgrain Ribbon - they are rather stiff and take a bit more patience to work with for bow tying. Oddly enough, the wider 1-1/4" Striped Grosgrain is quite soft and super easy to work with. I love that wide ribbon!

Are you new to stamping or thinking about giving it a whirl? If you've got questions, I've got answers. Leave me a comment below. And remember - there ARE no silly questions in Stampingville. Don't be shy!
